Gender, politics, family, and love are the themes unwinded in the book Love Pictures by photographer Jess T. Dugan and curator and writer Charlotte Cotton. Sparked by a conversation between the two, the book intertwines images and dialogue between Dugan and Cotton and the communities sustaining them. In times where hate and distance seem to be the easiest option, the one that is at our reach, Dugan and Cotton created a publication celebrating connection and relationships where vulnerabilities are shared, discussed, and accepted.

Love Pictures, published by Radius Books, a series of portraits of loved ones and Dugan’s queer community accompanied by conversations and exchanges with friends and colleagues like Dawoud Bey, Kelli Connell, Dorothy Moss, and Gem Fletcher, are an act of affirmation of the artist’s queer identity, where photography is an act of seeing and valuing, and, in reflection, as a way of being seen by others. It is an intimate, courageous act of trust, of opening up to others to allow them to see and understand, step by step, picture after picture, new forms of relationality, love, and hope.
