Ruth Negga Is the 2026 Cannes Film Festival’s Style Star to Watch

This week, as the 2026 Cannes Film Festival began in France, Hollywood’s finest began touching down on La Croisette to promote their latest projects. While there are plenty of can’t-miss films slated on the roster—starring names like Sandra Hüller, Scarlet Johansson, and Hoyeon—the red carpet is just as much of a spectacle to behold, sometimes eclipsing the movies themselves. Over the course of the next two weeks, 2026 Cannes jury members such as Ruth Negga, Demi Moore, and Chloe Zhao will all be serving their best evening attire—and just a few days in, Negga has already proven to be the style star to watch.

Styled by Karla Welch, Negga has always been one to own a red carpet, consistently choosing looks that balance Old Hollywood glamor with modernity and freshness. This has certainly been the case for Negga’s Cannes approach thus far. This week, she kicked off the festival by arriving in a satiny white matching set by Celine for the first jury photo call. The twisted-yet-tailored top and wide-leg trousers were finished off with caged heel sandals and sleek metal-frame shades. Only one word for that look: Cool.

For the opening ceremony, Negga changed into a more evening-ready dress: The actor wore a Dior Couture gown made of hammered green satin, edged with black lace inlays and finished with long fringes of threads, ribbons, and beads. It had all of the razzle-dazzle of a traditionally glitzy Cannes gown, but sans the fuss or stuffiness. Quelle moderne!
