With a guest list that included Isha Ambani, Lauren Sanchez, and Anne Hathaway, the Met Gala red carpet was always going to glitter—but this year, the carat count tipped into something closer to spectacle. In celebration of the exhibition “Costume Art,” attendees leaned decisively into statement jewels, with some so outstanding that they required a watchful security guard.
It was a night for the statement necklace. Emily Blunt—fresh from The Devil Wears Prada 2 press tour—accessorized with a half-million-dollar Mikimoto body necklace that created the most artful swags on pearls. And given her costar Anne Hathaway’s long-standing allegiance to Bvlgari, it was hardly a surprise to see her once again draped in the Roman house—she wore a gold laurel-esque necklace.
Met Gala co-chair Venus Williams, meanwhile, opted to dazzle in crystals. In a look by Swarovski, she wore a neckplate she custom-designed with meaningful symbols from her life, like LA’s Watts Tower—a wink at her Californian roots. Meanwhile, Sudha Reddy wore a hulking $15 million dollar necklace from her personal collection (flex) that featured a 550-carat deep violet-blue tanzanite.
And ever the minimalist, Hailey Bieber lent a subtle antiquity to her look with rings and ear clips from Belperron’s storied Virgin Gold collection—its softly glowing finish recalling the high-karat hues of classical Greek adornment and neatly echoing the exhibition’s dialogue between fashion and art.
